The aim of this area is to research and develop novel biomedical materials and devices for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, including (1) Advanced regenerative medical materials; (2) Smart and bio-inspired biomaterials; (3) Molecular and multi-scale structural biomaterials; (4) Gene transfection materials; (5) 3D bio-printing and biofabrication; (6) Tissue and organ engineering. (7) Stem cells and regenerative medicine; (8) Biomechanics and regenerative medicine; (9) Bioreactors and microgravity tissue engineering; (10) Standards and regulations for biomaterials and tissue engineering products.

Awards and Honors

In 2015, Prof. Shengmin Zhang was elected as IUSBSE Fellow (FBSE) for his distinguished contributions to development and translation of regenerative medical materials, and to public promotion of biomaterials science.

In 2014, Dr. Shengmin Zhang received the Special Contribution Prize by the Chinese Society for Biomaterials.

1n 2007, Prof. Shengmin Zhang won the TOP 10 Excellence Teacher’s Award by the Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
