Organized by China Society of Micro-Nano Technology and hosted by National Engineering Research Center for Nanomedicine, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the Conference on Micro-Nano Technology and Medical Innovation Conference (2024) was successfully held on May 25-27, 2024 at Wuhan Optics Valley Science and Technology Conference and Exhibition Center. Focusing on the theme of “Micro and Nano Technology Enabling Healthy China, Medical-Industrial Crossover Helps Innovative Development”, the conference invited more than 1,200 delegates from domestic and foreign countries who are engaged in micro and nano technology in various fields such as research, teaching, production, transformation, and policy research, and nearly 500 experts and scholars made academic presentations.
Opening session of the Conference
The co-chairmen of the conference are Prof. You Zheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Teng Gaojun, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Southeast University, and Prof. Duan Wenhui, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University. The Executive Chairmen are Prof. Yang Xiangliang, Director of National Engineering Research Center for Nanomedicine, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Wang Xiaohao, Executive Vice President of Ocean Engineering Research Institute, Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, and Prof. Liu Qiang, Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University. The Secretary General of the conference is Prof. Zifu Li from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the journal EngMedicine is providing academic support for this conference. Prof. Yang Xiangliang presided over the opening ceremony.
In the opening speech, You Zheng comprehensively introduced the basic situation of our university. He pointed out that the university has made great progress in the fields of micro and nanotechnology, biophysics and perception biology in recent years, and said that the university will continue to vigorously develop these disciplines in the future, adhere to the development of “science and technology and medicine intersection”, and promote scientific research, innovation and industrialization in related fields.
Mr. Xia Song, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department, said in his speech that micro and nanotechnology have an important position in the development of national science and technology. He emphasized that scientific and technological innovation is the key to lead industrial innovation, and that medical-industrial crossover empowers the development of China's health industry, which will promote the progress of China's medical technology and the enhancement of the industry.
On behalf of the Society, Mr. Wang Yuelin, Vice President of China Society of Micro-Nano Technology, extended a warm welcome to the delegates. He pointed out that micro and nanotechnology empowers the development of medical industry in various fields such as detection, diagnosis, treatment, etc. This conference provides a platform for micro and nanotechnology researchers to communicate and makes an important contribution to the development of medical-industrial cross-fertilization.
Opening remarks
In the conference report session, twelve top experts in the field, including Academician Li Jinghong, Academician Teng Gaojun and Academician Shi Jianlin, made wonderful reports on the latest scientific research progress in the field of nanomedicine, clinical application of medical-industrial crossover as well as industrial transformation of micro and nanotechnology and other topics respectively. The experts' reports were in-depth and concise, showing the breakthroughs in cutting-edge science and technology as well as providing typical cases of practical applications, which won high praise from the scholars attending the conference.
Academicians’ Reports
The thematic sessions were divided into ten topics, namely, Session I: Micro and Nano Robotics in Medicine; Session II: Implantable Micro and Nano Biosensing and Medical Devices; Session III: Nano Molecular Medical Imaging; Session IV: Nano Bio-medical Materials; Session V: Micro and Nano Bio-medical Devices Design and Manufacturing; Session VI: Nano-Oncology; Session VII: Nano-Toxicology and Nano-Technology Product Regulatory Science; Session VIII: Nucleic Acid Drug Nano Delivery System and Vaccine Adjuvant; Session IX: Microneedle; Session X: Microfluidics. Experts and scholars from home and abroad gave wonderful presentations. In addition, the Investment and Industrial Transformation Forum, co-sponsored by Changjiang Industrial Group and National Nanomedicine Engineering and Technology Research Center, as a featured sub-forum of the conference, received wide attention from the participating experts and enterprises. The Youth Forum supported by Small Methods Journal provided a broad academic exchange platform for young scholars.
The successful organization of this conference further promoted the application of micro and nanotechnology in the field of medicine and healthcare, promoting the cross-border cooperation of related disciplines. Delegates expressed that through this conference, they not only gained rich academic knowledge and understood the latest research progress, but also got acquainted with many like-minded experts and scholars in the same field and established valuable cooperative relationships.
